How they feel different
Alcohol tends to lower inhibitions and cloud judgment as you drink more. Kava is usually described as relaxing your body while your mind stays clear. More on that in what kava feels like.
Hangovers
Most kava drinkers don't report a hangover like alcohol's. Some people feel a little groggy the next morning after a lot of kava. That's a big reason people switch to kava for nights out.
Is kava worse for your liver than alcohol?
Alcohol is one of the leading causes of liver disease. With kava, the concern comes from reports in the late 1990s and early 2000s of liver injury, mostly linked to concentrated kava supplements. That led the FDA to issue a consumer advisory in 2002.
Later reviews, including a World Health Organization report, pointed to factors like poor-quality plant material and solvent extracts. They recommended noble kava root prepared with water, the traditional way. Serious liver problems from kava are considered rare, but if you have a liver condition, check with your doctor first.
Never mix kava and alcohol
Both affect the central nervous system, and combining them can make you more impaired and may add strain on the liver. Kava & Company is a zero-proof bar, always.
So which is healthier?
